Astray3 # 236 will be delayed for a bit. Don’t worry it’s on the way.

I imagine these are the people who managed to survive being blasted by the humans in the upper part of the city and they came to view the humans as gods somehow.

  2. Sarah

awww, thay actually look kind of sweet. They’ll probably turn into creeps, and insist she takes part in some ritual that would replace her hand with a blender or something.

    • Equalor

I don’t think so. They see her as an emissary from god if not a god herself. Likely they want her to either heal the afflictions or completely transform them. Either way they are a strange group.

As an aside I think I mistook a beater off a mixer for a screwdriver handle

    • Equalor

Unless they view the human items melded into them as either some sort of honor bestowed on them from the Humans, or a test of their faith. Then who knows whats going on

  3. bachterman

now emily can watch tv. :)

    • Equalor

I don’t know about that. Looks like an old analog set to me.

That gives me an idea. Is this what happens to the lost and forgotten items from our world ? When we lose something does it find itself melded into the flesh of a creature in this world ? And what happens to the parts these human items have replaced ?

Oh and I see a toy boat by the blender.

  4. 11bane

Man, this page is making me wish there was a larger version of that last panel to look at. Just to see all of the crazy warped monstrosities in greater detail.

  5. Equalor

Lets just see if I can spot all the Human items melded into the condemed

Firewood, Windup Alarm Clock, Toaster, TV, Powerdrill, Blender, Cheese Grater, Screwdriver, Toy Car

and in the first panel Theres those stick and wheel building things I forget the name of

    Did I miss anything ?

Hey, just read this strip from the beginning.

Wow, I absolutely love the look. I know it’s intended to evoke old-time adventure strips like Prince Valiant, but the thing it made me think of first is the comic adaptations of SF novels like City of Gold and Lead that they used to have in Boy’s Life.

I really love the frequent updates. I will be following this daily.

    • eldoniousrex

Thanks Sergei. I think your thoughts are perfectly valid. While the comic does seek to follow the old adventure strip format, it is updated a bit for out modern age.

I also fondly remember the old “Boy’s Life” comic section. Awww..yesterday, seems so far away.

Read the entire archives in one go, kinda sceptical at first, but you’ve won me over.

Awesome stuff, plot / art wise.

Keep this up, and you’ll be one of the greats in no time.

@ charles – TosterFace’s eyes really did go pop. I wonder if his odor is something between burnt toast and bacon. She or he is probably the last person I would like to be by when caught in a thunder storm haha. Even though it is all objects, game peices, appliances, and electronics I wonder if any of them function since they are fused to these poor people. Could she or he, at a push of a button, blend her own mind? Talk about having a “kill switch”.

    • charles

Heh, he even shifted the “tab” on ToasterFace from down to up.

I think Jeff might be on to something. This world is full of different creatures that each fulfil a different function. So what if they are turned into their earthenware counterparts? A creature which can perform the function of a television in the Astray world is turned into a television by the Avalonians… Which makes some sense that humans might be seen as their gods if they turn into objects and devices created by humans… Damn! This thought process is actually going somewhere…

Oh, I got a kick out of the brain in the blender! made me think of all those old drug commercials :)

  10. Jeff

I am starting to realize of all the comments on how they have some sort of animal to do things that we have some technological device to do may be the reason that they have all these pieces of ‘technology’ all over them. The ‘human’ who did this to them noticed it as well, and decided to stick it to them I guess you can say…

I knew some people say that someone’s junk is another one’s treasure but that’s a bit much ;) Great detailing like usual.

Just letting you know Round 3 has started for the TGT Tournament. So, please vote away every hour for Scott here and your other favourite webcomics / interviews.

Crikey! Ramon’s got nothing on these guys. Heck, he was probably lucky not to get pool cues for legs to go with that eye. I love “BlenderBrain” great job there. I’m trying to make out if any of them are species we’ve seen but they’re so altered I don’t know if I could work any of them out. Is it just me, or did “ToasterFace’s” eyes pop out between panel 2 and 3?

Whatever you discovered to replicate your old art style, it’s working beautifully. I really thought you’d gone back to pen and paper, its an amazing difference. I think the digital can just look a little too clean and clinical but these latest ones have that more varied, hand-drawn look about them.
